For
those who want to go on a diet to lose weight but still want to feel
the same pleasure with those who are not dieting, often choosing sodas
with additional labels 'diet'. Drinks with additional label does have a lower calorie levels when compared to the regular version or non 'diet'. For comparison, in general drink regular soda contains 143 calories, while the version of 'diet' only contains 1 calorie.
However, if examined further, diet sodas containing aspartame which in
addition has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) sometimes have side effects such as headache, dizziness, mood
changes, or skin reactions.
Although low in calories, it turns out this diet sodas can cause weight gain. Why? The reason lies in aspartame, the artificial sweetener that can be
found in diet soda, which causes the body to 'ask' extra calories.
Research suggests if you offer something that feels like body contains
a lot of calories, but it is not, then the body becomes alert to the
possibility that there is something and will look for additional
calories.
This situation can stimulate appetite and cause you want to add to eat. Likewise with a sweet drink be able to make you crave more sugary foods can lead to weight gain.
Based on research conducted by Sharon P. Fowler, MPH, and colleagues
at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, it was
found that there is a 41% increase in risk of overweight on every can or
bottle of diet soda you drink someone every day.
Judging from the above facts, it turns out drink diet soda is not better when compared to regular soda. Surely it would be better for your health if you do not eat them at all and return to the regular drinking water more healthy.
